A Look Back at IOOF Cemetery
Previously Known as Estates of Serenity
The IOOF Cemetery in Marion, Indiana—previously known as Estates of Serenity—has a rich
and meaningful history dating back to the early 1800s.
The land was originally established as a Quaker burial ground during
the time of the War of 1812, serving as one of the earliest resting places in the area.
In 1859, the cemetery was acquired by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), a fraternal organization dedicated to caring for the sick, supporting families, and providing dignified burials.
Under their guidance, the cemetery expanded and developed into a well-maintained
and a respected final resting place for the Marion community.
Throughout the years, the cemetery has grown alongside the city, reflecting generations of local history.
Today, Marion IOOF Cemetery remains a peaceful and beautifully maintained cemetery,
offering a place of remembrance for families of all backgrounds, under the
new ownership of Center Township Trustee.
Visitors can still find sections that trace back to its original Quaker roots,
preserving its deep historical significance.
